Apprentice Plumber

Apprentice Plumber
Under the direction of the site or shop Foreman, theresponsibilities of the Apprentice position includes assisting and learning theassembly, installation, and repair of plumbing, water flow, and drainagesystems in accordance with city, state and federal plumbing codes. TheApprentice will be enrolled in a OAT Certified Apprenticeship Program, whichincludes attending two evening classes per week, two semesters per year.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Assisting in installing and maintaining plumbing systems.
  • Learn to read blueprints and drawings to determine exact specifications and where plumbing system will be installed.
  • Assisting in determining water supply networks and waste drainage systems.
  • Assisting in the install of systems used totransport water, waste, gases, or fluids.
  • Cutting openings in structures in preparation for pipes.
  • Learning which materials are needed for installation, includingtype and size of pipe.
  • Installing supports and hangers for pipe, fixtures and equipment.
  • Assembling and install valves and fittings.
  • Assembling pipe sections, tubing and fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing and welding equipment.
  • Assisting in installing other plumbing equipment, such as sinks, tubs, toilets, water heaters, air conditioners, appliances, and trim.
  • Measuring, cut, thread, and bend pipe to required angle.
  • Observing pressure gauges to fix leaks. Test pipe systems and fix leaks.
  • Repair and maintain water treatment equipment.
  • Assist with all labor work associated within our scope of the job.
  • Ensure all installations, and repairs are properly aligned, supported, and grade.


Participates in Apprenticeship Program by:

  • Complete On-The-Job-Training (OJT) as required by Standards of Apprenticeship.
  • Regularly attend required apprenticeship classes.
  • Complete all assigned coursework and assignments.
  • Able to take and follow precise orders form supervisors
  • Able to listen very carefully and communicate effectively.
  • Safe and proper use of hand and power tools.
  • Basic math skills and use of tape measure/level.
  • Demonstrate willingness to work with others in a team environment.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Additional HPE “Incidental Training” as required.
  • Enrollment in OAT Certified Apprenticeship Program.

Journeyman Plumber

  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, CAD documents and submittals.
  • Utilize professional knowledge, skills, and experience proficiently in system and product installation.
  • Perform layout activities accurately for system, fixture, and equipment installations.
  • Stay informed with regard to innovative new materials and methods
  • Perform testing of systems for code, specification, and contract compliance.
  • Promptly communicate material and tool projection concerns to Lead/ Site Superintendent
  • Identify and report potential installation problems or concerns
  • Install waste & vent, domestic water fixtures, hydronic piping, mechanical equipment, gas and perform test reports.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of IPC Code, local jurisdiction
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of IMC Code
  • Enforces a safety focused culture
  • Other duties as assigned



Education, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum 4 years trade specific, commercial construction experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Applicable construction standards including system installation methods, procedures, and sequencing.
  • Applicable code, regulation, and certification requirements
  • Typical commercial project scheduling and flow of mechanical activities.
  • Tradetools and equipment used for installations
